About me

Hello everyone,my name is Jefferson Davis, some of you,or alot of you for that matter, may know me for being the President of the Confederacy during our Nation's civil war. Before we move on any further about our Nation's unfortunate battle during the 1860's,let me tell you a little about myself.

I was born on June 3rd,1808, in Christian County,Kentucky. I was the youngest of my mother and my father's ten children. My father, Samuel Davis, served in the Continental Army during the American Revolutionary War,and my 3 brothers served in the war of 1812.

I was involved in politics early in my life, and my graduation at Translyvania University,I started a career as being elected to the US House of Representatives, that was in 1844, I might add. My first love was Sarah Knox Taylor, her father didn't like me as well as I hoped, but I resigned my comission and married her on June 17,1835.

I also served in the Mexican American War, becoming a colonel in the Mississipi Rifles, it was not a great memory, that war, being shot in the foot was a bad feeling altogether, that's when Sarah's father really took a liking to me.

Enough of the rubbish about my personal life, time to get to know me that made me really famous and noticed, the American Civil War.

In 1861, while the war started, I was elected to a 6-year term as the President of the Confederacy, I also never served in a office before, so it was a new start indeed. My first successful move was signing Robert. E Lee to be commander of the Confederate Army. Being the President, my military strategies were a bit flawed I might add, so I can contribute to a small percentage of the loss of the War.

Right after we lost the war, I tried to disguise myself as my 2nd wife, Varina Howell, but the Union soldiers captured me, and held be in prison at Fort Monroe, Virginia.

After the war, I was a pretty famous figure and people showed me affection long after the war, but of age 81, due to unknown causes, I passed away on December 6th, 1889. My funeral was the largest in the South, I might add.
